Description:
Two women slowly apply makeup with their backs to the audience. A depressing
dirge plays. They turn around and approach the audience, revealing a grotesque
version of what is expected of women in today's society. Over the next hour,
we see them dance with poles, segment and bisect their bodies with white cards,
and contort themselves and pout for an unseen photographer, in a methodical
series of choreographed vignettes that expose the voyeurs we have all become.
Garish smirks alternate with confusion and ennui; vapid posturing leads to
exhaustion in a bizarre maze of images and catch-phrases that gradually but
quite literally overtake the stage. I Hate Women bludgeons its audience
with an onslaught of full-frontal dances performed to music ranging from Tommy
Dorsey and Sinatra to bluegrass and house.
